Accessibility statement of the Lastu.finna.fi website

This accessibility statement explains how well the lastu.finna.fi complies with the Act on the Provision of Digital Services, what shortcomings there are in the accessibility of the website and how you can give us feedback on accessibility problems. Lastu.finna.fi is responsible for the accessibility of the materials found on the website. The National Library of Finland is responsible for the accessibility of the user interface.

This online service largely meets the A and AA level accessibility criteria required by law (WCAG criteria 2.1). The online service has some shortcomings in accessibility, which are described in more detail below.

Supervisory authority

If you notice accessibility issues on the website, first leave your feedback with us, the administrators of the website. It may take up to 14 days to receive an answer from us. Should you not be satisfied with the answer or you do not receive an answer from us within two weeks, you may file a complaint with the Regional State Administrative Agency for Southern Finland. The agency website has detailed instructions (in Finnish and Swedish only) on how to file a complaint and how the issue will be handled.

Content or features that are not yet accessible

  • There are some headings on the website which are not descriptive. Some texts which are not headings have been marked as such. (WCAG 2.4.6, WCAG 1.3.1)
  • There are some link texts on the website which are not descriptive. (WCAG 2.4.4)
  • Some images have alt-texts which are not descriptive. There are also images which have alt-texts even though they are decorative and do not need one. (WCAG 1.1.1)
  • Some of the videos on the website are not fully accessible. (WCAG 1.2.3)
  • Users are given visual instructions on how to use certain elements. These are not understandable to screen reader users. (WCAG 1.3.3)
  • Contrast between colours is too low in some graphics on the website. (WCAG 1.4.11)
  • Keyboard focus is not visible around all functional elements. (WCAG 2.4.7)
  • Some form fields are missing a label. (WCAG 3.3.2)
  • Some elements do not have a proper role. Also, some elements do not work as expected by the user (e.g. sub-menus in main navigation) and possible changes are not announced to the user. (WCAG 4.1.2)
  • Not all functional elements are accessible to a keyboard user. (WCAG 2.1.1)
  • When magnifying the text or using a mobile device, some content on the website is not visible to the user or requires the user to move the page both horizontally and vertically in order to get some elements in full view. (WCAG 1.4.4, WCAG 1.4.10)
  • Status messages (e.g. errors and successful completions of tasks) are not read to the screen reader user. (WCAG 4.1.3)
  • An effort will be made to correct the shortcomings listed in this statement by the end of 2021.

    Accessibility requirements do not apply to certain content

    The online service includes videos that are published in YouTube. Lastu libraries are not responsible for the development of YouTube’s player and cannot fix its accessibility problems.
